Environmental Benefits of Renewables
- "The Environmental Imperative:
A Driving Force in the Development and Deployment of Renewable Energy Technologies," Renewable Energy P
olicy Project Issue Brief #1: "Energy technologies drawing on renewable energy avoid the
severe environmental impacts of the fossil fuel cycle. An energy market that considered the total cost to
society of our energy choices would greatly encourage the deployment of renewable energy technologies.
This paper outlines the environmental imperative for accelerating the exploitation of renewable resources.
In particular, the authors argue that well-designed energy policies, such as those promoting renewable energy,
would help prevent serious environmental degradation."

Wind Energy and Climate Change: A Proposal for a Strategic Initiative
is a white paper from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) that describes a 10-point plan
to stimulate wind energy development in the U.S. According to AWEA, the Initiative could result in
30,000 megawatts (MW) of wind capacity being installed nationwide by the year 2010, reducing U.S.
emissions of carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas, by 100 million metric tons each year.

A comprehensive look at a series of policy issues raised by the growing trend toward "green marketing": selling power from renewable energy sources at a premium price.
