Washington, D.C., May 7 – The U.S. Department of Energy has confirmed that Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will speak at WINDPOWER – the U.S. wind industry’s largest event all year. This will be the first time in 16 years that the head of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) attends the annual conference and exhibition, which will be held this year in Orlando, Fla., May 18-21.
Dr. Ernest Moniz
U.S. Secretary of Energy, U.S. Department of Energy
Secretary Moniz will speak during the Welcome & Opening General Session on Tuesday, May 19, starting at 8:30 a.m. He is expected to discuss Wind Vision, the DOE’s definitive new report that shows how wind energy can create ample economic, environmental and health benefits and continue to provide key contributions to the nation’s energy portfolio. He will also explore advancements in wind turbine technology that could open up economic wind opportunities in many parts of the country.
Doug Greenholz, President of IKEA Property Inc., also confirmed he will be speaking during the Welcome & Opening General Session at WINDPOWER 2015. Greenholz manages IKEA’s 40 existing stores and support units in the U.S. He is expected to talk about IKEA’s investment in U.S. wind farms and wind energy across the globe. IKEA announced late last year the purchase of a 165-megawatt Texas wind farm, the single largest renewable energy investment made by the company ever. The company is one of many to recognize the benefits of stably-priced, affordable wind power in recent years.

After adding 23,000 jobs in 2014 and with over $23 billion of private investment in new projects now under construction across 100 projects this year, the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) 2015 WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition is where all the action in the industry intersects and will be on full display.
WINDPOWER is where thousands of industry workers, company leaders, decision-makers, and over 400 exhibiting companies, including GE Power & Water, Siemens, and DNV GL, will gather for four days of high-level discussion, cutting-edge technology demonstrations, and nearly unlimited networking opportunities.
Press conference-style media availabilities are scheduled after the opening General Session and the Power Session on Day Two packed with top executives. AWEA will work directly with journalists to facilitate one-on-one interviews.
WINDPOWER will take place at Orlando Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida.
