Trade Group Welcomes
Maryland Clean Energy Bill

he American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) welcomes the passage by the Maryland legislature of a forward-looking bill that calls for a growing share of the state's electricity to come from renewable sources like the wind and sun. In praising Maryland’s Renewable Portfolio Standard legislation, AWEA Executive Director Randall Swisher issued the following statement:

"With their inexhaustible potential, environmental advantage, and increasingly competitive cost, renewable energy sources are technologies of choice for the 21st century. The bill just passed by the Maryland legislature will ensure that an increasing share of the state's power comes from these clean, safe, renewable energy sources, while creating jobs and reducing pollution. The American Wind Energy Association applauds the leadership of the legislature in approving this progressive legislation, and calls on the Governor to swiftly sign it into law. Maryland joins the 14 other states that have enacted similar legislation, including New York and New Jersey. Maryland’s 7.5% renewable energy requirement is on a par with other RPS legislation that has been passed in many of these states."
