WINDPOWER 2003 TO BE INDUSTRY'S
BIGGEST GATHERING IN THE US

Annual Conference Will Feature Industry CEOs, National and State Energy Regulators, Political Leaders, and Largest-Ever Exhibit Hall

Washington, D.C.  - With less than one month until the start of the U.S. wind energy industry’s largest-ever annual meeting, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) today announced the featured speakers lineup for the WINDPOWER 2003 Conference and Exhibition. WINDPOWER 2003 will take place at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas May 18-21, 2003.

“As the second-largest producer of wind-generated electricity in the nation, Texas has become a national leader in wind,” declared AWEA Executive Director Randall Swisher. “Texas has a rich wind resource and a strong set of state policies designed to promote wind energy development, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the largest-ever wind industry conference to the Lone Star State.”

At a time of turbulence in energy markets, the American wind industry continues to post double-digit growth. WINDPOWER 2003 will provide an opportunity for national leaders from the worlds of business and government to discuss the expansion of wind energy in the United States and address the entrepreneurs and advocates who have helped wind become the fastest-growing energy source in the world. Featured speakers at the conference include:

  • U.S. Department of Energy Assistant Secretary David Garman

  • Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioners Nora Mead Brownell and William Massey

  • American Electric Power CEO E. Linn Draper, Jr.

AWEA will host media availabilities on Monday, May 19, and Tuesday, May 20 to provide journalists with an opportunity to interview featured speakers. National conference calls for media may be held in conjunction with the two media availabilities scheduled on Monday, May 19.
