Did you know...

...that electric power plants pump more than 11 million tons of pollutants into our air every year?

...that 1.8 billion tons of carbon dioxide (the primary greenhouse gas) are generated as a direct result of American electricity use?

...that roughly 2 billion people on the planet aren't connected to the electricity distribution network and all the benefits it provides?

...that wind power and other renewables are ready now to provide clean energy for consumers around the world?

AWEA Wind Energy Advocates Do!

It's True

The quality of our environment is threatened by increased use of coal, oil, and other fossil fuels to generate energy.

The damages inflicted on our water supply, the air we breathe, and the species that inhabit the Earth are innumerable, and the task of curing these ills can seem daunting. But much of this environmental damage can be attributed to unbalanced energy policies and continued dependence on traditional, highly polluting energy resources.

For example, power plants in the U.S. account for 35% of emissions of carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas; 66% of sulfur dioxide, the primary component of acid rain; 30% of nitrous oxide, the principal component of smog; and 21% of mercury, a heavy metal which poisons fish in freshwater lakes.

We Must Act Now to Turn the Tide

Now is the time for you to join the effort to promote the use of the Earth's naturally clean and inexhaustible resources. Each of us must take responsibility in this battle -- by saving energy in our homes, by helping to conserve energy in our community, and by educating policy makers about our clean energy options.

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is working with local, state and federal policymakers to further the development of wind energy and other renewable energy resources as key components of a more balanced world energy supply. AWEA's programs target energy policy as it is being written. The Association works with state legislatures and regulatory bodies, the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Department of Energy, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and in many other arenas.

Wind energy technology is economically and technically viable and will play a major role in providing clean energy to satisfy the world's growing energy needs. We need your help to foster the American industry's growth and to build support for clean energy around the world.

AWEA is committed to ACTION

You can help bring clean energy to the marketplace and contribute to improved environmental quality by becoming a Wind Energy Advocate.

As an Advocate, you'll contribute directly to the Association's legislative and regulatory advocacy, public education programs, domestic and international market development efforts, and support for continued technology development.

As a Wind Energy Advocate, you'll gain the opportunity to participate in a growing international network of individuals who are working to create a sustainable energy future for the planet. You'll receive AWEA Action Alerts when significant legislative and regulatory proceedings require your intervention.

Advocates also receive a discount on more than 50 publications and educational resources from AWEA's Online Store.

Advocates Now Receive an Electronic Subscription to the AWEA Windletter

In addition, AWEA Advocates receive a subscription to AWEA's electronic monthly newsletter, the Windletter, which recaps the month's most significant wind energy news and includes interesting information for small wind system users and other wind energy enthusiasts. See sample Windletter articles.

Most importantly, you'll become an integral part of AWEA's team, which is focused on creating a clean, stable energy future for the planet. AWEA staff and business member companies need your support to promote an even playing field for wind and other renewables in domestic and international energy markets. Your advocate dues, along with your participation in AWEA activities, will bolster the Association's efforts and bring increased strength and influence to support a renewable energy future.
