Wind Energy Case Studies

This section of our site is devoted to linking to application sites and collecting information and data that shows how wind energy is being used today in various ways around the world.

Small Wind Systems

  • Renewable Energy Systems for Village Power - Gain access to over 150 continually up-dated case studies of wind and other renewables used in village power and other small system applications around the world.
  • Bergey Windpower Company - BWC hosts a growing sample of case studies for its small 850-watt to 10 kilowatt wind turbines.

Large Wind Systems and Wind Farms

  • Spirit Lake, Iowa - Energy output data from a 250kW wind turbine installed on the grounds of an elementary school.
  • Lake Benton, Minnesota - A site that demonstrates how wind energy projects can be a source of regional pride--while being compatible with existing recreational land uses.
  • Sustainable Minnesota - A growing site that describes projects in a state that has taken the early lead in wind energy development in the Midwest.
  • California Energy Commission - "Fast Facts" about the wind farms in California, including energy production statistics for the years 1986 to 1995.
  • Wisconsin Low Wind Speed Turbine Project Page - Information and data on two large wind turbines operating in the Wisconsin Low Wind Speed Turbine Project. Downloadable MS Excel spreadsheet files.
