Over 250 people braved the winter weather to attend the AWEA Wind Power Project Siting Workshop held
February 28 – March 2 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. With wind power development expanding more broadly
across the various regions of the United States, and with
new participants entering the wind development business,
this workshop looked at the various ways wind power
projects affect - and don't affect - elements of the human
and natural environment. The program included presentations
on emerging issues of project siting, such as bat interactions,
wildlife survey techniques and potential development in the
Great Lakes, and update participants on siting processes.
The workshop covered the very latest information in the following topics:
Regulations, Permits & Guidelines – what governs wind power projects
Wildlife Issues and Research Results – the latest
on today’s wildlife issues
Technical Issues – FAA requirements, sound,
visual impacts, and other considerations
Community Relations – how to work effectively
with communities and deal with opponents
Offshore Development in the Great Lakes – update
on offshore activity
