Learn the Latest Developments in Wind Project Siting

Dive deep into key wind energy siting topics! The AWEA Wind Project Siting Seminar addresses the relationship between proposed wind development and potential impact on surrounding natural and human environments. Attend this essential event and explore issues related to wildlife interactions, sound and visual impacts, radar, cultural resources, wetlands, and stakeholder interests. Investigate the legal implications of wind projects, discuss alternative strategies to reduce environmental effects, and gain insight into successfully navigating the wind project siting process. Network and collaborate with fellow wind professionals, share successes and challenges, and take away additional tools and knowledge from this event that you can apply to your work directly after the seminar.

Why is this Seminar Important?

Siting is a vital step in the development process of a wind project, as it identifies and addresses potential risks early-on that can lead to costly delays and hurdles during the permitting process, through construction and operations. Using proper siting techniques, a developer can identify project risks and take the necessary steps to avoid them, increasing the probability of successfully completing the project on time and under budget. The siting process also helps to avoid wildlife and human environment impacts that can negatively affect long-term plant operations and revenue.

As the industry expands, less complex project locations are developed, making the siting process even more important. Public education is critical to both the project's and industry's success by reducing misinformation about wind energy and emphasizing the facts. Attend the AWEA Wind Project Siting Seminar to develop the necessary tools to be successful in developing projects and advocating for your project, company, and industry as a whole.

Sound & Visual: Siting in Populated Environments

A vital element in successful project development is proactively educating the public and decision makers on the realities of wind facilities. Some members of the public have raised concerns that wind turbines may cause health impacts related to infrasound, vibrations, or shadow flicker as well as affect nearby property values. The goal of this panel is to provide an overview of the body of knowledge that demonstrates that these concerns are largely unfounded or misrepresented, and provide useful information to developers and other industry representatives that are often asked to respond to such concerns.

Community Involvement - From Land to Legal

Obtaining approval, or at least acceptance, from your wind farm neighbors, is crucial to any project development moving on to construction. This session will teach you how to first define who the "community" is, understand the critical timing around engaging the community early on, and address and overcome common opposition issues from a variety of stakeholders. The panel will discuss communication strategies, the importance of a community relations campaign and calendar, and lessons from noted experts and wind project developers. Speakers will also share their successes and challenges in various environments.
