AWEA Education Working Group
The Education Working Group provides a forum for wind industry members and individuals from the educational community to promote: wind education programs for Kindergarten through the 12th grade; job and career training programs for Community and Technical Colleges; academic and career development programs at Undergraduate and Graduate institutions; and scholarship opportunities through the “AWEA Educational Scholarship Program”. The group will meet up to three times each year and interact through emails and an online eCommunity forum.
Kindergarten-12th Grade Goals:
- Increase marketing of existing K-12 curriculum developed by AWEA
and NEED
a. Focus on disseminating information to AWEA membership, “Wind Energy Works” members and Project Developers
b. Disseminate information through AWEA events & WINDPOWER
c. Identify external organizations that for distribution of educational materials
- Continue to refine and expand current K-12 curriculum
- Develop case studies and examples of pathways (types of jobs) into the industry
Technical/Community College Goals:
- Develop introductory workforce training program
- Develop guidelines for a standardized curriculum (for one and two-year degree programs)
- Identify technical and community colleges that have created a training program on wind energy
Undergraduate/Graduate College Goals:
- Develop consortium database and/or curriculum database of university and graduate wind/renewable energy classes or programs
- Create a Universities Guide based on current ‘wind for schools’ effort at Department of Energy (DOE)
- Build a listing of manufacturers and developers that currently support Universities
