Randall Swisher has served as Executive Director of the American Wind Energy Association since 1989. Prior to that, he worked as Legislative Representative for the American Public Power Association and as Energy Program Director for the National Association of Counties. He has also worked as Professional Staff for the House Interior Committee's Energy and Water Subcommittee and as Executive Director for the D.C. Public Interest Research Group, where he first became involved with renewable energy advocacy in 1975. Between 1976 and 1981, Swisher served as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center, where he taught courses on energy policy. Swisher has a Ph.D. in American Civilization from George Washington University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Iowa.

Stephen Miner joined AWEA in November 2002. He is responsible for the WINDPOWER annual conference and exhibition along with the development of new technical and educational programs for AWEA. He also serves as the staff liaison for the WINDPOWER Program and Exhibitor Committees. Previously he served as the Manager of Education with the Environmental Industry Association (EIA). Prior to EIA, Mr. Miner had 16 years of experience as an administrator and faculty member in the higher education field at the University of Michigan-Flint in Flint, Michigan and Prince George's Community College located outside of Washington, DC. Mr. Miner graduated from Framingham State College in Framingham, Massachusetts with a B.A. in Sociology and Economics, and received an M.Ed. in Counseling from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Stefanie Brown joined AWEA in 2001 and works primarily on AWEA's annual conference and exhibition as well as other educational workshops. Stefanie's role in these events is mainly related to logistics including site selection, hotel and convention center relations, vendor facilitation, creation of promotional pieces, registration, sponsorships, catering, and many other responsibilities. Prior to AWEA, Stefanie worked at ICF Consulting for 3 years on a variety of energy and environmental consulting projects. Stefanie earned her Bachelor of Science in Integrated Science and Technology with double concentrations in Energy and Environment from James Madison University in 1998.

Sakura Emerine joined AWEA in November, 2003. She is responsible for developing and executing educational programs for AWEA's conferences and workshops. Lori Rugh joined the AWEA team in August of 2005. Main responsibilities include
strategically planning for industry alliances & growth of supply chain on a National and International level. Responsible for growth of WINDPOWER conferences and all of the AWEA Workshops and other AWEA hosted events. This is inclusive of Sales, Sponsorships, Show Management as well as other responsibilities within the AWEA organization, working jointly with the Education staff and Membership staff.
Lori comes to AWEA
from a long background in the wind industry, working both for Enron Wind then GE Energy in a Marketing/Communications capacity and a history in Marketing prior to the wind years. Graduating from the Penn State University in Man/Environment Relations, she finds strong connections to her major through this industry.

Mike joined AWEA in April of 2007. His previous work experience includes recruiting and managing large numbers of volunteers and organizing and leading small workshops in model building. Most recently, Mike worked at a large outdoor concert venue as a chauffeur and security for visiting musicians and VIPs. Mike graduated in December 2006 with a degree in psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.

Tom Gray joined AWEA in 1980 and became Executive Director in 1981. He left AWEA in 1989 and rejoined the staff in 1994. He previously worked as a newspaper reporter and as a legislative assistant to the Michigan State Senate and to a U.S. Congressman. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Haverford (Pa.) College and a Juris Doctor degree from Catholic University of America. In 2003, he was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Powering America program as a "Wind Energy Pioneer" for his work with AWEA.

Christine Real de Azua joined the American Wind Energy Association in 1999. She is the association's assistant director for communications. Christine works on media and stakeholder outreach to increase the general public and decision-makers' awareness of, and interest in, wind energy. Prior to joining AWEA, Christine launched and directed Accounting for the Environment, a non-profit policy and advocacy project. She also has extensive editorial experience, including working as assistant editor for World Press Review magazine and One World, an international publication on development issues carried by major dailies in several countries. Real de Azua holds a degree from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, in Paris, France, and a Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania.

Laurie Jodziewicz joined AWEA in February 2004. Laurie works on project siting and wildlife issues before industry organizations, executive branch agencies and environmental groups. Prior to joining the organization, Laurie worked as a lobbyist at a private energy and environmental consulting firm, securing resources for a variety of distributed energy projects. Over the past eight years, she gained experience in a number of energy organizations spanning the solar, wind, and natural gas industries. In 1997, Laurie graduated magna cum laude from the George Washington University with a B.A. in International Politics.

Susan Williams Sloan joined AWEA in September, 2005. She coordinates Wind Energy Works!, (www.windenergyworks.org) an alliance of groups that aim to engage the public debate over wind energy development and counteract the spread of misinformation by wind energy opponents. In 2007, Wind Energy Works! received the Wind Powering America “Outstanding Institutional Partner” award. Susan also serves on the steering committee for NREL’s Wind Powering America program. Prior to joining AWEA, Susan spent more than three years at Virtus Energy, a renewable energy consulting firm, where she coordinated activities for The Wind Coalition. Before joining Virtus Energy she worked for public officials at the Texas Capitol, and has also represented cable and broadcast media interests at the local, state and federal levels. In the mid-90's, Susan spent four years in Hong Kong handling corporate communications for New T&T telecommunications and then STAR-TV, the Asian satellite television arm of the News Corporation. Susan earned her B.A. at Austin College in Sherman, Texas.

Jaime Steve has been with AWEA since 1997. Before joining AWEA, he worked as an attorney, an environmental advocate, a reporter, and as a Congressional staffer. Jaime represents the wind industry before the Congress, the White House and Federal agencies including the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Aviation Administration. Jaime led the successful efforts to extend the wind energy Production Tax Credit in 1999, 2002, 2004 and 2005. He is also responsible for AWEA's strategy and advocacy on issues including energy policy and wind energy research and development funding. In addition, he runs WindPAC, AWEA's political action committee.

Ron Stimmel joined AWEA as the Small-Wind Advocate in August 2006. Prior to joining this organization, Ron worked in energy efficiency consulting in Seattle, WA and with the Green Power Market Development Group at the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC. He authored "Winds of Change" at the American Public Power Association and performed independent lobbying work for the 2004 SUV Tax Loophole Closure Act. At AWEA, Ron advocates policy and legislation in support of wind systems for residences, farms, and small businesses. Ron holds a B.A. in Government and a Minor in Science, Technology and International Affairs from Georgetown University.

Tom Vinson joined AWEA in November 2007. He represents the wind industry before Congress and federal agencies primarily on climate change, clean air, and siting issues. Prior to joining AWEA, Tom spent more than 10 years working for Members of Congress in both the House and Senate. Most recently, he was legislative director for Representative Peter DeFazio of Oregon. In that capacity, Tom worked on legislation and advised the member on issues ranging from energy to foreign policy, national defense, trade, and taxes, among others. He also directed the work of the House Northwest Energy Caucus, a bipartisan group of all House Republicans and Democrats from four Northwest states that primarily focuses on issues related to the Bonneville Power Administration and the Federal Columbia River Power System.

Michele Sullivan joined AWEA as the Membership Marketing and Member
Services Manager in January 2006. Prior to that she worked as the Director of Finance and Technology for the Washington Freedom, the DC franchise of the women's pro soccer league, the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA).
Before the Freedom, Ms. Sullivan spent several years with consulting firms
focused on assisting operations-intensive companies streamline and optimize
their processes. Prior to graduate school, she worked as an Economist and Database Specialist for the National Institute of Technology's (NIST) Advanced Technology Program (ATP) to enable public-private partnerships by investing in early-stage, innovative technologies.
From 2000-2005, Ms. Sullivan served on the Board of Women in Sports
and Events (WISE) of the Washington Metro Area. As Communications Chair,
she wrote the DC e-newsletter, maintained the chapter’s membership database and produced the Member Directory. As the National Board Liaison, Ms. Sullivan coordinated content with the National Web Master, worked with the
National Editor to create press opportunities, and provided chapter content
for the national newsletter.
Ms. Sullivan received her M.B.A. with a special focus on operations and manufacturing from the Darden Graduate School of Business at The University of Virginia (U.Va.) and her B.A. in Quantitative Economics from Stanford University.

Kathy Belyeu joined the AWEA Communications Department in March 2000. Before joining AWEA, she had experience researching legislative and regulatory initiatives and writing government affairs reports for a Midwest electric utility and the Washington office of an international utility. The topics she focused on included electricity restructuring and environmental initiatives, as well as corporate issues, such as taxes and health care proposals. Kathy received an M.B.A. degree from Georgetown University in 1995 with a special focus on international diplomacy. She received her B.A. degree in English Literature from Pomona College in 1991.

John provides wind energy technical, educational and policy support to technical audiences out of his office in Minneapolis. He also manages AWEA's wind energy standards program. John has been with AWEA since 1993, and collaborated with AWEA while serving as a renewable energy program manager for the Minnesota state energy office for fifteen years. He has degrees in physics and mechanical engineering, and is a licensed professional engineer.

Wendy White joined AWEA in June, 2005 with 12 years experience in Web site planning, development and management. Prior to joining AWEA, Wendy was a Web consultant and iMIS specialist for non-profit organizations. As a Web Manager for Servus Financial, Wendy consulted with and developed Web projects for Microsoft, Apple, BankOne, and other leading US corporations. Wendy studied computer science at Prince George's College. She has completed the Corporate Webmaster Training and Certification program developed by Sysoft, which is now offered by the International Webmasters Association. She has also completed coursework for the Macromedia suite of Web development products and a variety of related applications.

Mike joined AWEA in April of 2007. Previously, he worked in the art materials industry, most recently at his family's shop, the Art Colony at the Blueprinter in Palm Desert, California. Before that, Mike developed products and designed electronic publications for MacPherson's, the nation's largest art supply distributor. Mike is a graduate of the University of Missouri, where he studied journalism, graphic design and anthropology. His hometown sits beside the San Gorgonio Pass wind farm in the Southern California desert.

Rob Gramlich leads the association’s work in transmission, policy analysis, and regulatory policy. He frequently testifies before state and federal agencies and he works with wind companies on the state, regional, and national levels to address transmission challenges. He has been involved in electric industry analysis and policy for about fifteen years. He was the Economic Advisor for FERC Chairman Pat Wood, III from 2001 until 2005. He has held positions as a market analyst in the PJM Market Monitoring Unit, the PG&E National Energy Group, the World Resource Institute and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Rob has a master's Degree in Public Policy from UC Berkeley and a BA with honors in economics from Colby College.

Jeff Anthony joined AWEA in March 2007. He is responsible for supporting utilities in their efforts to integrate and adopt wind power as a mainstream generation technology. He works with individual utilities across the U.S. as they expand their use of wind power, to aid them in their understanding of wind's benefits, and to help them address integration and other implementation issues. He is involved in a number of industry efforts related to wind integration, to accelerate bringing larger amounts of wind power onto electric utility systems. He also maintains relationships with utility trade groups and provide outreach and education to various sectors in the electric industry on the benefits and current state of wind power in the U.S. Mr. Anthony graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and received an Executive MBA from Northwestern University.

Hans Detweiler is Manager of State Legislation and Policy for the American Wind Energy Association. Previously, Detweiler was Deputy Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, where he administered the state’s renewable power, renewable fuels, and energy efficiency programs, and where he provided policy guidance to the Governor’s office.
Before joining DCEO, Detweiler was a Policy Advocate at the Environmental Law & Policy Center, focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency advocacy. Detweiler has also worked in a variety of policy and advocacy roles with organized labor and other non-profits.
Detweiler holds a B.A. in Political Science from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa.

Michael Goggin joined AWEA in February 2008. He represents the wind industry on transmission matters, coordinates member input on the development of policy positions, facilitates the exchange of information between members, handles press inquiries on transmission-related issues, and advocates policy positions that advance wind industry interests. Through these activities, he works to promote transmission investment and advance changes in transmission rules and operations to better accommodate wind energy in the power system while maintaining system reliability. Prior to joining AWEA, he worked for two environmental advocacy groups and a consulting firm supporting the U.S. Department of Energy’s renewable energy programs. Michael holds a B.A. with honors in Social Studies from Harvard College.

Liz manages AWEA analytical agenda including wind market economics, analysis of the effects of various policy options on the wind industry, and wind energy benefits in support of communications, legislative, and policy strategic initiatives. She provides analytical support for AWEA's legislative agenda including the Production Tax Credit, Renewable Portfolio Standards, Climate Change Regulations and Research & Development Budget. Liz holds a master's degree in Environmental Public Policy from the George Washington University and graduated with honors from Boston University with a B.A. in Economics.

Ronald L. Lehr practices law and consults clients about energy and telecommunications regulation and business matters. Current assignments include work for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on the DOE program "Wind Powering America", for the American Wind Energy Association on transmission issues for wind energy, and for the National Wind Coordinating Committee. He also works for national trade organizations, and private firms on renewable energy policies and commercialization strategies. He appears as an expert witness, sponsoring testimony in utility merger, anti-trust, and government claim litigation. He served for seven years from 1984 to 1991 as Chairman and Commissioner of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. He serves on corporate and foundation boards of directors and boards of advisors. He recently completed terms as an appointed member of a panel charged to make recommendations on electric industry restructuring to the Colorado General Assembly, and as President and Commissioner of the Denver Board of Water Commissioners, the water utility for Denver and surrounding suburban areas.

Swaha has been consulting with AWEA since 2005. She had prior experience in web design and development for six years. This included experience at Wells Fargo and the Internet Services Department of the Fairfax County Public Library. She possesses certifications in web application development and design. Swaha has taken courses in computer programming and database design. She has a Master's degree in Psychology.
