Results from the latest AWEA wind energy market report
There were nearly 1,300 MW of wind energy project under construction at the end of the second quarter of 2013, with over 900 MW of new wind capacity starting construction during the second quarter alone. While no new wind energy capacity was commissioned during the second quarter, there were more than 3,900 MW of new power purchases agreements signed during 2013. The U.S. wind industry had over 60,007 MW of wind energy capacity operating at the end of 2012. The fourth quarter of 2012 saw 8,385 megawatts of wind power capacity installed, bringing total 2012 additions to 13,131 MW for the largest installation in U.S. history representing a $25 billion investment. At the end of 2012, there are 45,100 operating wind turbines in the U.S. which are able to power the equivalent of over 15 million American homes.
