Nebraska: Wind for Schools Project Ends, But Learning Continues

China Leads the Way in Small Wind Power Market

According to research and consulting firm GlobalData, the small-wind power market is expected to increase significantly, from $609 million in 2012 to $3 billion by 2020. China, the United States, and the United Kingdom contributed to more than 80% of the global small-wind power installed capacity in 2012, with 266 MW, 216 MW and 118 MW, respectively.
Record Year Blows United Kingdom Small Wind Installations Past 102 MW

2012 turned out to be a huge year for small wind in the United Kingdom. While this sector of the wind energy industry remains relatively small in comparison to utility-sized and offshore wind in the UK, it's now responsible for 102.5 MW of installed distributed generation capacity and is projected to continue growing through 2014.
LIPA Issues Requests for Proposals for Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation Resources

New York-based Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) issued two RFPs recently, one for variable-sized renewable energy projects, and the other to begin replacement of "peaking" generation facilities with cleaner, distributed resources.
SWCC Certifies Two More Turbine Models, Others Reach Milestones
In June 2013, the Small Wind Certification Council (SWCC) issued its fifth and sixth full certifications and consumer labels, for the 5.2-kW Kingspan Renewables KW6 and the 5.5-kW Bergey Windpower Excel 6. Nine wind turbine models now carry SWCC certification. Final reports are under SWCC commissioner review for the Endurance S-343 and the Evoco 10kW, and six others have either completed testing or are currently collecting data at their testing sites. In addition, three new Notices of Intent to pursue SWCC certification were filed in June: for Pika Energy's T701 and Star Wind Turbines' 36-10 and 52-24 models.
