AWEA Offshore Compliance Recommended Practices: for design, deployment and operation of offshore wind turbines in the United States

These recommendations apply to all offshore wind facilities with bottom-fixed support structures installed either on the Outer Continental Shelf in federal waters, or in near-shore locations such as state waters. The recommendations also apply to both salt and fresh water conditions of any water depth, and to offshore wind facilities of any size.

Recommended practices address three major areas relevant to the approval process for offshore wind turbines:

  1. Structural reliability
  2. Manufacturing, qualification testing, installation, and construction
  3. Safety of equipment, operation and decommissioning
