AWEA Utility Working Group

AWEA Utility Working Group

The AWEA Utility Working Group is available to AWEA Utility Members to exchange information on wind power from the utility perspective and to advise AWEA on utility programs. The Utility Working Group provides a forum for the free exchange of information, best practices, lessons learned, operating experiences, and challenges associated with the development of wind power by and for electric utilities in the U.S. AWEA values the insight and guidance the Utility Working Group provides to develop programming, services, and research that benefit its Utility Members.

Webinars

AWEA finds that webinars are a very effective method to provide the most current, pertinent information to all AWEA Utility Members, for whom participation is at no cost.

  • Wind Project Ownership by Utilities
  • Wind Integration Analyses and Costs – presentations by NREL, EPRI and the Utility Wind Integration Group
  • Utility Operations & Maintenance of Wind Turbines – insights from DOE and utilities with O&M experience
  • The Hedge Value of Wind Power in an Era of Low Natural Gas Prices – LBNL

Activities

The AWEA Utility Working Group guides AWEA engagement with utilities with the wind industry – and other utilities – through a wide variety of methods, including:

  • In-person national meetings twice a year and periodic regional meetings with local utility leaders
  • Electronic newsletters from AWEA on topics tailored to electric utilities
  • Regular conference calls and webcasts
  • Reports and analysis performed on key topics of particular interest to electric utilities
  • Networking opportunities at AWEA events throughout the year
  • Focused opportunities to provide utility perspectives to AWEA on various policy issues

Meetings

The AWEA Utility Working Group typically meets twice each year in face-to-face meetings - at the annual AWEA WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition in late spring and at the AWEA Wind Energy Fall Symposium. The working group meetings are open to load serving AWEA Utility Members, and provide a candid and comfortable environment to exchange utility ideas and address challenges.
