Subscribe to your elected officials’ communications
Most elected officials send periodic e-newsletters to their constituents. You can sign up for these e-newsletters by visiting your senators’ and representatives' websites. You may also be interested in following your elected officials on Facebook or Twitter.
If you read your legislators’ communications, you will become more familiar with the issues that they pay attention to most, and their positions on these issues. By familiarizing yourself with your legislators’ perspectives, you will be better able to relate to them and frame the issues that you care about in the way that appeals to them most.
Also, your legislators will likely use these electronic communications to alert you to their upcoming town hall meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity for constituents like you to speak with the legislator in a public setting.
